What does a set decorator do on a reality TV show?
A set decorator sources, builds, and dresses every environment the camera sees, then keeps it camera-ready through a demanding shooting schedule. On unscripted television that means designing spaces that feel real and expensive, standing up multiple sets fast, and holding continuity across long days and many episodes.
What is the difference between an art director, a set decorator, and a set dresser?
The art director owns the overall look and directs the build across every department that touches the set. The set decorator designs and dresses the finished environments, from furniture to hero props. The set dresser places and maintains those pieces on set. Carly has done all three across fifteen years, which is why she can run a build from concept to strike.
How do I hire an art director for an unscripted or event production?

How far in advance should I book an art director for a shoot?
As early in prep as you can. The earlier the lock, the more the design, sourcing, and build get done right instead of rushed. For large or destination builds, reach out the moment the shoot is greenlit so the world is ready when cameras roll.
